Lunching at the Belmond Mount Nelson, Cape Town.
We had the most amazing lunch in our Hot Hotel – Belmond Mount Nelson, in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. We were mutual guests of both the South African Tourist Board UK & Ireland and the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel. Needless to say we were in food heaven!
The SA Tourism Lunch consisted of the following:
Starters:
Duck terrine with sweet pickled vegetable, prune purée and warm toasted brioche
or
Beetroot and apple salad fromage blanc, nut and apple crumble.
Mains:
Grilled chicken supreme, leeks vinaigrette, rocket and parmesan
or
Pan fried Kariba black bream, couscous, tender stem broccoli, lemon and butter sauce.
Dessert:
Chocolate and caramel delice with roasted pear ice cream.
The meal, truly worthy of royal approval was washed down of course with the best mint tea South Africa had to offer!
Did you know, the signature Mount Nelson Tea has been expertly blended from six teas: Darjeeling, Kenya, Assam, Keemun, Yunnan, Ceylon, and rose petals from our garden. In addition, they offer an array of leaf and flowering teas.
Speaking of tea, at the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel, high tea is a true institution!
Make sure your trip to the Mother City is complete and experience the best afternoon tea Cape Town has to offer. Enjoy delicate finger sandwiches filled with rare roast beef and rocket, smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise or cucumber. Follow with a delectable dark chocolate cake, lemon meringue and freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves.
Adding a special local flavour is a typical South African milk tart, called “melktert” in Afrikaans.
During the winter months you can also enjoy a selection of warm treats. Expect mushroom empanadas, tomato tarts and chicken pies.
Something we nearly forgot to mention was the wine list! Should you like a glass or two, then the Belmond Mount Nelson offers an extensive wine list to compliment the fine dining experience. After all, you are in South Africa, which is world renowed for its wine. The beautiful Stellenbosch region and Franschhoek (Dutch meaning French corner) are a mere stones throw away from the hotel!
If your a foodie and love good food, then by all means give your tastebuds a treat and pay a visit to the Belmond Mount Nelson and tell them Fly Cruise Stay sent you!
